Sinenhlanhla Zwane’s family is not interested in the apologies of their son’s killer

Hector Masuku confessed to killing Sinenhlanhla Zwane.

Kwa-Thema – Hector Thabang Masuku confessed before the Springs Magistrates Court in a written affidavit that he shot and killed Sinenhlanhla Zwane.

He had denied killing Zwane since his arrest. The 19-year-old Zwane was killed in full view of his friends on November 7. It is alleged before he died, he demanded R30 that Masuku owed to him. Masuku is an alleged drug dealer.

Social worker Lungelwa Thobejane handed an evaluation report to the court after interviewing Masuku, indicating that he regretted his actions.

The report stated that the 34-year-old was remorseful for his actions and wanted to apologise to the family for taking Zwane’s life.

The court heard that Masuku was at the time under the influence of crystal meth and alcohol. He said he panicked when he saw Zwane in the company of his friend, who claimed to be armed.

Masuku decided to defend himself by shooting Zwane. The murdered man’s mother, Victoria Msizi, said all she wants is justice for his son.

“I know a harsher sentence will not bring my son back to life, but it will to a certain extent console us. Why did he feel the need to kill my son for R30?” she asked.

She added she doesn’t believe that Masuku is remorseful but trying to get a lighter sentence.

“He went into hiding for four days after the incident. When he was finally arrested, he claimed that he didn’t know

Zwane continued to plead not guilty. This is until recently when he confessed in an affidavit during the trial.

“I am not interested in giving him a chance to apologise,” she added.

Masuku is not a first-time offender. He was previously arrested for possession of an illegal substance and received a five-year suspended sentence and fined R1 500.

The court case was postponed to January 30 for the correctional officer’s report. Masuku remains in custody.
