GBVF activist receives award

OneStrong Voice foundation has waged a war against GBVF.

Kwa-Thema – Gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) activist Brian Sithole received a recognition certificate during the 356 Men of the Year Awards last week.

The award recognised him for being a positive male role model and asset to the country.

Sithole is a member of the One Strong Voice Foundation, an organisation that fights GBVF and helps affected families and victims find their way from the dark cloud of abuse.

He was honoured alongside some of his role models Jomo Sono, Apostle Sithole (Oasis Of Life), Martin Sweet (Primedia) and Dr Joe Maswanganyi.

Sithole said he is humbled by the recognition for the work he does in the community of Ekurhuleni.

“We don’t do the work to be recognised but to empower and support those who require our services.

“We have dedicated ourselves to fighting GBVF. We might not win the fight today but we are working towards that goal,” he added.

Sithole added they have partnered with different government departments and organisations in a bid to be able to link services to the victim’s needs.

The MEC of Social Development, Mbali Hlophe, said the awards are one of the interventions as the Gauteng Provincial Government appreciated and honoured men who are great examples in our society.

“During this period, we focus on men, especially looking at how we can help groom the boy child to be model citizens.

“We need to start talking more about this to turn the tide on these horrific statistics on GBVF,” said Hlophe.
