A corner-to-corner cleaning campaign

ANC members clean up dirty streets

Kwa-Thema – Ward 77 led by the ANC held a cleaning campaign on Friday at the corner of Kgaswane and Joe Mzamane streets. The cleaning campaign comes after rubbish was not collected for two weeks.

“Three weeks ago we cleaned Ext Four at Moyo Street. We will still focus on the main where we will be cleaning again,” said branch secretary and ward councillor Thulane Dunjana.

Dunjana said the aim is to keep their ward clean. Meanwhile, in Ward 79 the ANC also had a cleaning campaign throughout the weekend.

This is after a lot of areas in the ward including the Ext Eight sports ground turned into dump sites.

The ward’s committee member sports coordinator Saki Kgaphola said: “I wish the councillor can speed up the cleaning process.

“Teams that play their home games at the ground have to temporarily move their games to Ext Seven sports ground, which is also turning into a dump site.”

Kgaphola complained that there is a passage next to the ground which is used by the community to dump.

“We also need proper fields, especially as we are playing in the Tsamaya League. Our fields also need to be upgraded,” said Kgaphola.

Ward 77 Clr Njabulo Mbonani said: “The matter was indeed raised and we have listened. We made sure that we clean the area.”

Mbonani said they have organised a TLB which will come to the ground to close the passage, however, they will call a community meeting first.
