Parents are not giving much-needed support to their children in sports

Parents need to support their children more

Kwa-Thema – Lebohang Martial Arts Academy which started operating last year has been facing challenges since its opening.

The vice chairperson, sensei Lebohang Makua said, “We need to affiliate with a karate association, whether local or provincial.

“Currently, we are struggling to get funds to do so.”

Makua said their juniors at this point cannot train due to it being exam time.

“We haven’t had activities, however, a few weeks ago we took two of our juniors to a competition in Brakpan and they came back with medals, one silver and one bronze.

“We only have 12 juniors in our dojo,” said Makua.

According to Makua parents are also not fully involved. They don’t come to see their children compete or train and disappear even more when it is time to pay the monthly fees.

“We would like to have more support from families and the community, as our dojo is not on an island but in the community,” concluded Makua.

Training takes place daily at the Riba Boxing Club in Kwa-Thema from 07:00 to 08:00 for seniors and from 16:00 to 17:00 for seniors.
