Drive to fight drug addiction in Tsakani

Drug users respond positively to the one-stop intake rehabilitation drive.

Tsakani – Over 80 drug addicts registered to be ready to be admitted at a rehabilitation institution on Saturday.

This was during the campaign to fight the high rate of drug abuse in the area.

The initiative was held by the Tsakani SAPS communication and social crime prevention joined Social Development and Health Development.

Educational material about substance abuse was shared during the drive.

Tsakani police spokesperson Sergeant Lerato Mngomezulu said this was a one-stop intake rehabilitation drive, whereby all drug users who are willing to quit were consulting with the social worker for a medical file.

During the drive, the users were examined by a doctor on site and had affidavits and certification of documents done by the police was also on site.

“We will be hosting similar initiatives to educate users and residents about all forms of substance abuse and available channels to fight it.

“We are urging those who need help to reach out and we will refer them to the necessary departments where they will be assisted accordingly,” she added.
