Whistle saves woman during house robbery

It is alleged the woman was sleeping when she was woken up by an intruder, who she knew, standing next to her bed.

Duduza – A victim of a home invasion was saved by blowing a whistle to alert her neighbours in the early hours of Friday morning.

It is alleged the woman was sleeping when she was woken up by an intruder, who she knew, standing next to her bed.

Armed with a gun and torch, the man demanded she hands over money. The victim told the police that the man threatened to shoot her if she did not cooperate.

The woman was able to reach out for a whistle that she kept under her pillow and alerted her neighbours.

The sound of the whistle startled the man and he was cornered and apprehended by the residents who handed him to the police.

Duduza police spokesperson Sergeant Harry Manaka said the man is facing a charge of attempted house robbery.

He is expected to appear in the Nigel Magistrate’s Court during the week.
