Fun things to do during load shedding

There is plenty to do when there is load shedding. Here are a few tips.

Load shedding is a reality that is a norm for all of us.

While some of us have come to anticipate and even plan on when to cook and do our laundry, we usually come short when it comes to activities once the chores are done and children sit restlessly.

Here are some of the things you or your loved ones can do to pass by time:

Catch up on some reading
Depending on the time of day the shedding happens, catching up on reading that book you have been putting off is always a good idea. It allows you to sit and relax while doing things you have been delaying.

If it is later in the evening and you didn’t charge your night light, cuddling up with the kiddies and telling each other stories is always a good way to pass by time until bedtime.

Reconnect with nature
With technology taking up more of our time, we seem to have lost track of the things that happen beyond our screens.

This is the time to save on phone batteries and get familiar with your surroundings again. Getting back in touch with nature is always a good idea to unwind after a long day.

It also helps that the summer nights are warm as well, allowing you to stay outdoors for much longer provided you can keep the mosquitoes at bay.

Host a bring and braai
Nothing screams braai time and hanging out with friends more than load-shedding over the weekend. Get together and bring out the meat and salads and just enjoy being around each other’s company. Try out new dishes and catch up with the people you care about but rarely get to see.

Spend time with yourself
Being away from the TV and social media should provide the perfect opportunity to meditate and self-introspect.

Have a self-care day or learn a new dance routine. It also helps to exercise and catch up on the sleep you didn’t get during the week due to a hectic schedule.
