Taxi driver shot and killed at Duduza taxi rank

The victim was fatally shot by two gunmen.

Kwa-Thema – A 33-year-old taxi driver was shot and killed at the Duduza taxi rank in Kwa-Thema on Thursday morning.

It is alleged at about 06:00 that Paul Nyembe was seated inside his taxi with one passenger when two armed men approached the taxi and opened fire.
Kwa-Thema police spokesperson Constable Nkululeko Magudulela said Nyembe, after being shot, managed to get out of the taxi but the gunmen followed him and continued shooting him until he collapsed.

“He was certified dead on the scene by paramedics. The passenger managed to escape unharmed. The unknown suspects fled the scene in an unknown vehicle,” he explained.
Magudulela added the scene was littered with multiple 9mm and rifle cartridges.
Three other taxis were shot at, but no one was injured during the incident. The motive for the murder is unknown at this point.
Magudulela said a case of murder is being investigated and the shooters have not been arrested.
“We are urging anyone with information connected to the shooting to contact Kwa-Thema SAPS on 011 812 4600,” he said.
