Modderbee women’s forum visits Masimini Primary School

The women's group spent the day with the school as they distributed dignity packs to learners.

Kwa-Thema – The Modderbee Correctional Service women’s forum donated dignity packs to learners at Masimini Primary School  last Tuesday.
One hundred and eight learners in grades one to seven received toiletry packs consisting of a bar of soap, a face cloth, toothpaste, body lotion, a toothbrush and sanitary towels for girls.
The initiative is on-going as the group has scheduled to visit other schools in Kwatsaduza.

Women in uniform spread some cheer at Masimini Primary School.

The group also assists the learners with school shoes, uniforms and other essentials that might be needed by schools.
Modderbee’s manager for special programmes Mabore Molokela said the initiative is meant to restore the dignity of learners, especially girls.
“We feel that government is not doing enough to prioritise the needs of learners, especially young women.
“To this day women are still expected to buy pads, yet condoms are freely available.

“Menstruation is something natural and we should not be taxed when nature is calling.
“We will continue to fight until governments responds,” said Molokela.
She added that the visit was also to bring the learners love and warmth as women in uniform.
The school principal, Mbuso Ndlela said the initiative could be the start of something positive for them.
“Their efforts are appreciated as our learners needed this.
“We are hoping that much more will come from this and that it will not end here.
“My wish is for them to revisit us to educate our learners about bullying since we have identified an issue of bullying,” explained Ndlela.
