Police wage war against drugs in schools

Tsakani police are aiming to arrest people selling drugs in local schools.

Kwatsaduza – As part of campaigns to fight drugs and bullying in schools, local police visited schools on Tuesday.
They were accompanied by officials from the Department of Community Safety, Gauteng Department of Education School Safety, EMPD K9, EMPD Social Crime Prevention, Gauteng Traffic, CPF and Boksburg Correctional Services.
In Tsakani, they conducted searches at JE Malepe Secondary School and Langaville Secondary School.
Tsakani police spokesperson Sergeant Lerato Mngomezulu said the random searches are part of the school safety programme aimed at removing drugs and dangerous weapons from the schools.

“This is to ensure that the school environment is safe for educators and learners for teaching and learning to take place without interruption.
“One screwdriver, small packets of dagga and rolling papers were found abandoned, which indicates that dagga is sold to learners, by learners, within the school premises,” she added.
Mngomezulu explained they will continue the random searches until the people selling drugs to learners are arrested.
