Team receives donation of soccer boots

“It warms my heart that I managed to make a difference in their lives through this small gesture.

Kwa-Thema – Sports players from the Kwa-Thema Disability Centre received an early Christmas gift in the form of soccer boots.
A parent, Jennie Smith, donated 25 soccer boots on Saturday during the fitness test of the players who qualified to compete in the upcoming Toyota National Championships for the physically disabled.
Smith said she was heartbroken when she saw a group of players sharing a single pair of soccer boots during training.
“The commitment and dedication from the players moved me to seek help from friends and family members.
“I could not turn a blind eye while my son is comfortable and his friends and teammates are in need,” she explained.

Smith appealed for donations on social media.
Before long, she collected enough funds for three pairs of soccer boots and other second-hand boots.
“It warms my heart that I made a difference in their lives through this small gesture. I am calling on other residents and business people to come forward to help this team.
“There are few clubs that cater for children with cerebral palsy. I have to drive my son 30 minutes to access this centre,” she added.
Team coach Aubrey Mathibela said the team appreciates the gesture.
“We appreciate all the help we receive from the community and need more parents to get involved in their children’s extramural activities,” he added.
