Art student turns hobby into a career

Sanibonani was produced by the young musician, who is a second-year fine and applied arts student.

Tsakani – A 21-year-old student from the Tshwane University of Technology has made a name for himself in the music industry.
Jackson Lucky Motla, known as JL SA, from Tsakani, made his mark when he released the amapiano hit Sanibonani.

“The song was produced at around 02:00. I was with a friend named Mtho who is featured in the song. I started playing down some chords then came with the lyrics after.
“’Halfway into finishing the lyrics, we thought of the Mi Casa song These Streets and sampled the flow of the vocals. The song was then released in October,” he said.

JL SA is a second-year fine and applied arts student. He is a self-taught producer.
“I don’t get any assistance from anyone. I learnt to work with instruments a long time ago. It was just a hobby, I did not think it could get me this far,’” he added.
Friends and relatives get assistance from the artist whenever they need help with anything relating to production.
Motla mentions that he looks up to many artists, but Martin Gariix is his favourite. He hopes to work with international and national artists in the future.
“I hope to one day get to fuse my talents with my qualifications,” he said.
The song can be streamed on all digital platforms.
