Murder in Daggafontein informal settlement

The men were later arrested and were detained at the Springs Police Station.

A 24-year-old man was stabbed to death while leaving a tavern in the Daggafontein informal settlement last Saturday evening.
Springs police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora said the deceased was at a tavern with his wife and her younger brother.
While they were at the tavern, the wife complained to her brother that two men were bothering her.
The brother confronted the men and told them to stop.

It appeared as though the men understood but a short while later, they grabbed the brother, dragged him outside and accused him of being rude.
Patrons at the tavern chased all three away.
When the tavern closed at midnight, the deceased stepped out of the tavern, only to be confronted by the two men who had earlier been bothering his wife.
One of the men had a knife and tried to stab the deceased but he defended himself by pulling out a gun and fired a shot at them.

He only had one round in his firearm and tried to run away from the men but fell and was attacked by the pair.
The deceased was stabbed three times – once in the chest and twice in the back.
The men then grabbed his firearm and fled the scene. A friend of the deceased rushed him to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The men were later arrested and were detained at the Springs Police Station.
Both the gun and knife used during the incident were recovered.
