“The tracks were reported stolen last Monday in the Heidelberg area.”

Tsakani – Three suspects were arrested in Tsakani last Wednesday by members of the EMPD Equestrian Unit.
Two men found themselves in hot water for possession of suspected stolen railway tracks, while the third was nabbed for possession of a hijacked vehicle.
EMPD spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng said officers conducting crime-prevention duties were stopped and approached at 9am by Afri Guard Security workforces requesting back-up at a local scrapyard.

“They alleged Prasa property was spotted in the scrapyard.
“Officers responded and two building occupants were arrested after 18 railway tracks valued at R100 000 were uncovered.

This man was arrested for possession of a hijacked motor vehicle.

“The tracks were reported stolen last Monday in the Heidelberg area.
“Charges of tampering with Prasa infrastructure and possession of stolen goods were levelled against the pair at the Tsakani Police Station,” he explained.
Meanwhile, at 12.30pm, patrolling EMPD officers spotted a nervous-looking man near a house along Helen Joseph Street.

The 44-year-old made an attempt to flee towards the house when he saw the Equestrian Unit members.
“The suspect was cornered and as the brief interview was conducted, EMPD members saw a suspicious-looking white Toyota Hilux double cab inside the yard, with the registration plates hidden underneath the bakkie,” said Mokheseng.

One of the suspects arrested at the scrapyard.

The Toyota was tested using the displayed licence disc and was identified as a vehicle that was reported hijacked.
The suspect, facing charges of possession of robbed/hijacked motor vehicle, was marched to the Tsakani Police Station and the recovered bakkie was taken to the SAPS Van Ryn Deep Vehicle Pound in Benoni for safekeeping.
The detained threesome are expected to appear in the Tsakani Magistrate’s Court soon.
