Tsakani arrests: December round-up

According to Sgt Lerato Mngomezulu, communications officer for Tsakani Police Station, these successes were realised through intense operations put in place for a safer festive season to ensure criminals do not operate in the community.

The operational readiness of members of the Tsakani policing precinct led to the arrest of about 155 people who transgressed various laws between December 1 and 31.
According to Sgt Lerato Mngomezulu, communications officer for Tsakani Police Station, these successes were realised through intense operations put in place for a safer festive season to ensure criminals do not operate in the community.
The majority of the 61 offenders were handcuffed for possession of substances suspected to be drugs.
Ten residents were arrested for selling liquor without a licence, closely followed by those who violated regulations of the Disaster Management Act.

Others were apprehended for cases ranging from common assault and assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH).
Five were arrested for possession of hijacked motor vehicles.
“We appeal to the community to help with information in order for police to arrest more hijackers.
“We would also like to appeal to the community not to create opportunities for hijackings by sitting inside their vehicles in the evening outside their yard or on the pavement,” added Mngomezulu.

Other arrests were for:
Rape – one
Murder – one
Domestic violence – one
Perjury – two
Child neglect – one
The SAPS also warned the community to refrain from reporting false cases.
All the arrested suspects appeared in the Tsakani Magistrate’s Court in the last four weeks.
