Police speak out against GBV

“We encouraged residents not to look away in cases of GBV and to take a stand against violence on women and children and other vulnerable groups."

Duduza – Duduza police led the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children campaign in three areas last Friday.
The campaign was held in collaboration with the Department of Community Safety, Life Line, the Youth Desk and all police stations within the Ekurhuleni East cluster.

Duduza police spokesperson Sgt Harry Makana said the objective of the campaign was to raise awareness on types of violence and the services available to assist those directly or indirectly affected.
“We encouraged residents not to look away in cases of GBV and to take a stand against violence against women and children and other vulnerable groups.

“The campaign was also used to sensitise the community of John Dube Village, which is regarded as a hot spot for GBV.
“A high number of cases of GBV are reported in this area and residents are encouraged to avoid walking though the open veld,” he said.
