“We believe that 16 Days of Activism is a great initiative to bring about awareness that no one deserves to be abused.
“Women and children deserve endless love, respect and protection.
“Therefore, it is important for men to engage and support these initiatives,” he explained.
He said as a movement they believe that in order for change, citizens need to put pressure on government.
“The solution to this current pandemic is a change in laws, which only government can do.

“However, we as the people of South Africa can ensure that change takes place by challenging government policies and laws.
“At the moment we are working with community-based organisations, who share the same goals and objectives as us,” he said.
He also emphasised the importance of hosting workshops on gender-based violence and that children need to be taught more about it, as early as pre-school.

Guests were also informed and educated about their rights when it comes to allowing mines to operate in their areas.
“Companies should do meaningful consultation with the community before they start operating.
“It is important to educate people about such issues to avoid issues of water contamination, pollution as in most cases those most affected do not benefit.
“Today, we are simply saying that people need to know their rights and understand that their voices have power,” he stated.
