Residents march against gender-based violence

Kwa-Thema – Members of the Duduza community joined hands and marched against gender-based violence (GBV) at the Duduza Freedom Square on Thursday.

The event was organised by Women in Faith against Gender-Based Violence Campaign, in collaboration with the Ekurhuleni SAPS, Department of Community Safety, the CPF and Youth Desk, House of Traditional Leaders under Inkosi uNgema and the Women in Faith leaders.
They pledged their support in the fight against GBV and urged victims to report their abusers.

Duduza police spokesperson Sgt Harry Manaka said they undertook to work together to assist victims and all those affected by GBV.
“We are receiving increased cases of GBV and the numbers will only go down if we all work together and ensure women and children are protected.
“The campaign was also held as a crime-prevention drive where stakeholders also encouraged the community to be ambassadors of safety.

“We are encouraging residents to adopt the safetyfirst approach to life.
“They must report criminal activities and drugs and alcohol abuse,” he said.
Stakeholders presented various topics through which the community can play a meaningful role in ensuring a safe and secure environment for all.
