Intruder fatally shot after stabbing resident

Homeowner shoots intruder

An intruder was fatally shot by an Edelweiss resident during a home invasion last Thursday afternoon.
The Springbok Street resident told police he was in the bathroom when he heard movement coming from elsewhere in the house.
Thinking it was his wife, the resident called out but was suddenly confronted by a man in the bathroom.
He asked the man what he was doing in the house and the man responded by saying he was there to kill him.
An altercation between the pair ensued and the resident was stabbed in the arm.

The resident then shot the man, who died on the scene.
When police arrived, they found the weapon the intruder used to stab the resident.
Police are investigating cases of attempted murder and housebreaking with the intention unknown and an inquest docket was opened.
Springs police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora said the identity of the deceased is unknown and efforts are underway to track his next of kin.

“We are warning people to refrain from going into people’s houses as the consequences can be deadly,” said Ramphora.
CCTV footage from the address revealed the man jumped the fence and gained entry into the house through an open door.
