Man arrested for drug possession

One was arrested for possession and dealing in illicit substances, while the other was nabbed for interfering with officers’ duties.

Kwa-Thema – Two men were nabbed on Sunday during a crime prevention operation conducted by members of the EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit in Kwa-Thema. EMPD spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng said a 31-year-old man was arrested at 11.45am along Motsugi Street after he was found in possession of five knotted plastic bags of rock and 32 paper-wrapped nyaope packages valued at R1 500. The drugs were stashed inside a tennis ball and the man also had R2 000 cash in his possession.

A 23-year-old friend of the suspect was arrested after he came across the EMPD members searching his friend and allegedly tried to intervene. He was arrested and faces charges of interfering with officers’ duties.

“Both men were escorted to the Kwa-Thema Police Station, where one is charged with possession and dealing in illicit substances,” said Mokheseng. “The arrested suspects are expected to appear in the Kwa-Thema Magistrate’s Court soon,” said Mokheseng. Follow us on:
