Councillor opens defamation case against scammers

“Apparently, these people said I was the one who gave them permission to occupy the land."

Tsakani – Scammers are selling stands of land in Extension 19, claiming to be working with the ward councillor. Ward 83 councillor Busisiwe Masuku has opened a case of defamation with the Tsakani police, following allegations of corruption and fraud over stands in her area. “I received calls from some community members wanting to know why I approved for building in this area after we initially said the open space is reserved for a public park and a school. “Apparently, these people said I was the one who gave them permission to occupy the land.

“This matter has been ongoing and I have been trying to alert the community to not buy stands from people as this place belongs to an estate agent,” explained Masuku. On the documents shown to African Reporter, inconsistent signatures and the use of different initials can be seen. “A number of residents have shown me documents they have obtained from the person who made the sale, which are fraudulent and have inconsistencies.
