ANC in Ekurhuleni visits various informal settlements to address service delivery challenges

ANC officials conduct informal settlement service delivery oversight

ANC Ekurhuleni Chief Whip Jongiziziwe Dlabathi visits Thabo Village informal settlement along with David Bopape Zone councillors.

The purpose of the visit was to ensure that residents are receiving effective service delivery even during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The oversight visits were conducted by the African National Congress Exco in Ekurhuleni.

Various informal settlements within Ekurhuleni were visited, along with ward councillors on Wednesday.

Dlabathi says the programme is continuous and should take place every week.

“This programme was agreed on in March as it aims to focus on service delivery spot checks, which must take place weekly and preferably on Wednesdays.

“Local councillors must be seen on the ground so they can also understand the needs of the community to ensure that services such as leakages, electricity and water issues are identified, reported and dealth with.

“During his engagement with the residents of Ward 98 at the settlement, he assured residents of the party’s commitment to address the matters.

“Today we are paying special attention to the informal settlements because these are areas which are mostly vulnerable, especially when it comes to hygiene.

“And in response to Covid-19, which requires certain hygiene measures, I am happy that this community is orderly demarcated,” says Dlabathi.

He also addressed the use of chemical toilets in the area.
