Support group for people battling cancer halted due to Covid-19

CanSurvive Cancer Support Group meetings remain suspended for the safety of cancer patients and survivors

Kwatsaduza – CanSurvive Cancer Support Group meetings remain suspended under Level 3 until further notice. Group director Ronnie Nkabinde says: “I would like to remind all our members and those who wish to be part of our support group that we shall make an announcement a month before the commencement of our meetings.

In the meantime we wish to remind our members that it is easy to prevent coronavirus infection simply by following the prescribed methods of wearing clean masks daily, washing of hands using a bar of soap for at least 20 seconds, keeping to social distancing, avoiding unnecessary travelling.”

Cancer patients and survivors are urged to take care of them as people with weakened immune systems are more at risk.

“We would like to advise our members to only go out when absolutely necessary because cancer patients and survivors are among those at higher risk of serious illness from an infection because their immune systems are often weakened which might cause serious implications for cancer patients.

It is important to eat healthy and avoid mass gatherings,” adds Nkabinde.

The organisation is also opposing gender-based violence.

We are also aware that some of our members who are suffering from prostate cancer are being abused by their wives and are afraid to speak out.

Should any of our members need counselling during lockdown please call me and the necessary counselling will be arranged for you,” he says.
