Operations manager Teddy Makitla says: “We are inviting people with previous disability and those workers who sustained occupational injuries and as a result acquired permanent disablement to come and register.

“The programme will offer them an opportunity to learn about starting a business and how to best manage a business.

“We want to encourage entrepreneurship among our people, especially with high unemployment rates in the country.”

Requirements for registration are proof of residence (not older than three months), compensation fund number, certified copy of identification, latest school results report or latest qualification, and certification or verification of disability by a health-care professional or disability support office.

“We want to give disabled people an opportunity to learn and acquire knowledge because we believe that everyone has the right to access to education and we ought to be given equal opportunities.

“Just because someone might have physical limitations doesn’t mean they are incapable of creating or starting their own business.

“We encourage people not to feel disempowered, but to grab this opportunity,” explains Makitla.
