Local athletes off to a good start

Athletes from the Langaville Athletics Club represent at the district school competitions, which were held in Brakpan on Friday.

Langaville – Athletes from the Langaville Athletics Club represent at the district school competitions, which were held in Brakpan on Friday.

For the u-13 Ofentse Sono (13) and Khulekani Dlamini (13) both took the number one spot for participating in the 80m and 100m.

Coach Saki Kgaphola says: “I am impressed with how our athletes have been developing, as this is a clear indication of the hard work they put in.

“We want to produce the best athletes in the world who will be representing the country at the Olympics.”

Eight-year-old Mpho Maliti from the club has now collected six gold medals since the beginning of February.

Kgaphola says the athletes have been showing great determination.

“Our athletes are very talented, work hard and are determined. They value and understand the importance of sport because sport also play a part in developing the economy.

“I am encouraging parents to support the young ones, therefore they can reach their fullest potential and allow children to try different sport codes,” he says.
