New soccer academy aims to empower young soccer players

The academy was officially launched in January by founder Venus Mmetle.

Tsakane –Players from the ages of 10 to 17 are invited to soccer trials which are set to take place at Tsakane Stadium on Saturday, from 7am, hosted by Victorious Sports Academy.

The academy was officially launched in January by founder Venus Mmetle, who is the former sports marketing and event manager of Laudium Academy.

“I have worked with a lot of academies nationally, now I want to give back to my community by sharing the knowledge and experience I have gained throughout the years.

“There’s plenty of talent in our township which needs nurturing and support.

“With this new sport academy, we aim to go international not only focusing on local opportunities,” says Mmetle.

The academy is registered under the Brakpan Local Football Association.

Academy administrator Lucas Mashilo says anyone with interest should attend trials.

“We are looking for anyone who has interest in soccer within the Ekurhuleni region. We don’t discriminate, all genders are welcomed as we are focusing on development.

“We want to see our girls playing for the national squad, therefore, empowerment is very important to us,” says Mashilo.
