Unemployed youth to be trained in Duduza

“Many of the unemployed youth completed their matric, but because of socio-economic challenges they were unable to further their education post matric.”

Duduza – Unemployed youth from Duduza attended a skills orientation development programme aimed at empowering them to be employable.

The initiative was held at KwaThema Multi-Purpose Centre on Friday, facilitated by ANC Youth League in ward 87.

Local skills training organisations offered to equip the youth with the skills they needed to better position them for the job market.

Ward committee member Tankiso Masoga says they have identified a gap of skills in many of the unemployed youth and decided to close it.

“Many of the unemployed youth completed their matric, but because of socio-economic challenges they were unable to further their education post matric.

“With very little prospects for the future, they end up taking drugs or being involved in crime, something that they could have avoided had there been other opportunities,” he explains.

Masoga adds that it is unfortunate that young people’s lack of skills makes it difficult for local companies to absorb them because the youth lack the skills these companies need.

Ward 87 Clr Bongani Hlope says they have identified that young people are unemployable due to lack of skills.
