Local church donates 75 pairs of school shoes

“We are based in a poor environment and understand that many of the parents are unemployed and can barely afford to buy their children stationery or school uniforms."

Tsakane – Over 75 schoolgoing children from Tsakane received gifts in the form of school shoes from Life Restoration Christian Centre on Saturday.

This was after the church decided to collect school shoes from their members last year.

Apostle Lucky Magagula says as the church they believe in empowering and making an impact in the community through education.

“We are based in a poor environment and understand that many of the parents are unemployed and can barely afford to buy their children stationery or school uniforms.

“Our members were generous enough to donate more than a single pair which we requested, while some went as far as donating funds towards the initiative.

“We were able to raise R25 000 which went towards buying some of the shoes and lunch for the beneficiaries,” he says.

Magagula says none of the beneficiaries are from his church, but ordinary members of the community.

“We asked for a list of children from poor backgrounds and invited them to attend the handover.

“The church is happy that we were able to make a difference in the lives of our children.

“We are hoping to collect over 200 pairs next year, as well as uniforms, to cover more of those in need,” he adds.

Magagula says they are urging other residents to make a difference in the lives of learners in their communities.

“It is important that we become the change we want to see in our communities to be able to fight crime, teenage pregnancies and substance abuse,” he adds.
