Matric results in for Duduza schools

“I saw it coming, but after the September preparatory exams I had hope that we would do better."

Duduza – Duduza’s matric class of 2019 managed to hold on to the 80% mark even though many dropped from their 2018 performances.

Asser Maloka Secondary School improved their matric pass rate sitting comfortably on a 88.2% seeing a 3% increase.

The school saw 119 learners seating for their final exams and only 105 managed to pass.

The school received 18 distinctions, 47 bachelor’s degree, 43 diploma passes and 15 higher certificate passes.

Nimrod Ndebele Secondary School received 84.9% from 2018’s 87.3% with a 2.3% drop.

The matric class saw 179 learners sitting for their exams.

They managed to achieve 30 distinctions, 68 bachelor’s degrees and 25 higher certificates.

Esibonelwesihle Secondary School saw a massive drop in matric performance from 83.2% pass to 77.7%.

The matric class saw 157 learners write their exams with 122 passing and 35 failing the grade.

They achieved 38 bachelor’s degrees, 57 diplomas and 27 higher certificates.

School principal Zanele Mdlalose says she is disappointed in the drop in learners’ performances.

“I saw it coming, but after the September preparatory exams I had hope that we would do better.

“In 2020, we are going to focus on improving their grades and we are going to start with the lessons from as early as Monday,” she adds.

M.O.M Seboni Secondary School also saw a drop in performance, but maintained their 90% pass mark.

The class of 2019 achieved a 90.4% pass mark, dropping from their 2018’s 94.4% pass mark.

Acting school principal Mandla Nkopane says they had 209 learners writing their final exams and only 20 failed the grade.

“We received 31 distinctions, 82 bachelor’s degrees, 71 diplomas and 36 higher certificates.

“We believe the high number in percentage drop is from the high number of learners who were progressed.

“We had to put in long hours pushing the learners who were struggling to maintain the 90% mark,” he says.

Tandi Eleanor Sibeko Secondary School improved their grades by 0.6% from 2018.

They scored 80.6% from 2018’s 80% mark.

They received five distinctions, 31 bachelor’s degrees, 39 diplomas and 17 higher certificates.

The matric class saw 21 learners failing the grade from the 108 who sat for their final exams.

They managed to achieve 100% pass in home languages, consumer studies and tourism.
