Tsakane matric class results

“We managed to increase the quality of our results despite the decrease in our performance and we want to obtain more bachelor’s degrees. We aim to work very hard this year to produce quality results.”

Tsakane – National Senior Certificate class of 2019 managed to hold on to the 80% mark even though many dropped from their 2018 performances.

Tsakane Secondary School saw a drop from their 2018 94.2% to 84.3% in 2019.

The matric class registered 202 learners which were the highest number in the history of the school’s matric class.

They managed to receive 26 distinctions, 93 bachelor’s, 67 diplomas and 12 certificates.

School principal Pearl Ncobo says the drop is attributed to the poor commitment of the learners.

“We saw a poor attendance in Secondary School Improvement Programme and their Saturday classes.

“We all saw it coming but hoped for the best.

“Even though the percentages have dropped we still maintained the quality of the results,” she adds.

Out of the 221 learners who wrote exams at J.E Malepe, 187 learners passed.

The school managed to obtain 99 bachelor’s degree, 63 diploma and 25 higher certificates.

The overall school performance slightly dropped from 92.7% to 84.6%, with 30 distinctions.

School principal Alice Makgalemele says: “We managed to increase the quality of our results despite the decrease in our performance and we want to obtain more bachelor’s degrees. We aim to work very hard this year to produce quality results.”

One of their learners, Thabiso Gift Gwayana, obtained four distinctions; he got a distinction in maths literacy, history, life science and tourism.

Thato Meshack Makena says he has enrolled to study computer science at Witwatersrand University; he got distinctions in maths, geography and physical sciences.

“I figured since I am very good with computers I should study computer science. I am very excited as I wasn’t expecting this,” says Makena.

Mamellong Comprehensive dropped slightly from their 2018 93.1% pass to 92% pass.

The matric class saw 75 learners sitting for their final year exams with 69 learners passing.

They received 30 bachelor’s degree, 27 diplomas and higher certificates.
