Councillor arrested for attempted murder

It is alleged the councillor's brother was fighting with the victim and the brother called the ward councillor to intervene.

An Ekurhuleni ward councillor is swimming in hot water after allegedly shooting a resident a number of times on Christmas Eve.

It is alleged the councillor’s brother was fighting with the victim and the brother called the councillor to intervene.

Upon arrival the councillor pulled out a gun and shot the victim in his upper body.

The victim is currently fighting for his life in an East Rand hospital.

Brig Mathapelo Peters confirmed that the suspect was arrested on December 29 on charges of attempted murder.

“He made an appearance before the Springs Magistrate’s Court on December 30 and was released on bail,” she adds.

The date of his following appearance will be determined once the case has been placed on the court roll.
