Residents urged to be safe this festive season

Know your neighbours and ask them to check on your house from time to time while you are away.

Tsakane – During the festive season, many people spend time away from home.

Tsakane police spokeswoman Sgt Lerato Mngomezulu shares some tips to keep your home safe from break-ins:

• Do not leave your home unattended. Have someone who will be on the lookout or stay behind in the house.

• Know your neighbours and ask them to check on your house from time to time while you are away.

• Make sure your windows are properly closed and that the doors are locked when you go to sleep or leave the house.

• When loading your luggage before going on holiday, make sure you are not seen, because this might lead to criminals breaking into your home.

• When you buy new items for your home, especially plasma TVs and other expensive valuables, make sure you dispose of the packaging to avoid being targeted by criminals. Do not show off your new valuables.
