Take part in local tournaments during the festive season

"We might be supporting different teams, but we have respect for each other.”

Kwastaduza – Sport development plays an important role in getting the youth off the streets and away from drugs and alcohol.

With schools being closed and holidays upon us, there are plenty of local sporting activities to accommodate everyone, from juniors, seniors and masters games to ladies soccer and netball.

KwaThema residents can enjoy the annual Ekurhuleni Goodwill Games, which started on December 16.

The tournament will come to an end on December 30.

Ekurhuleni Goodwill Games media liaison Seth Phumlile says: “Sport plays a vital role in our community and in uplifting it.

“Not only does it brings the community together, it gives our youth something to look forward to and something productive to do.

“These tournaments are not only for soccer teams, but for the community as well.”

He says the tournaments are community building.

“Our youth have too much time on their hands, which may lead to criminal behaviour or engaging in drug and alcohol abuse, therefore we create such platforms to ensure they are preoccupied and entertained. It also makes for a good family outing without having to break the budget,” he adds.

From December 16 to the 24, the games will take place at KwaThema Sports Complex and finals will take place at the KwaThema Stadium on December 27 to the 30.

The community of Duduza can look forward to the TS Galaxy FC Festive Tournament, which started on December 17 and will continue until the 30th.

Multi Falcon FC and Barcelona All Nation FC entertains fans ahead of local tournaments.

For Tsakane, there is the Tsakane Festive Games ’19 hosted by Ingqayizele Sports Management.

The tournament started on December 14 and will come to an end on the 31th and is played at Malandela Ground in Tsakane.

Tsakane Festive Games ’19 organiser Votile Jack says supporters can look forward to entertaining soccer.

“With sport we are able to avoid so many negative things.

“Because sport is so disciplined, it helps in keeping not only our players grounded but fans as well.

“We might be supporting different teams, but we have respect for each other,” says Jack.
