“Our main focus is the arts and culture sector as artists, and we want the community to be aware of our existence.”

“The reason we decided to start with the carnival is to showcase local talent and to attract the community. It is a sign of commitment from our side as well to show that we take our art very seriously,” explains Sibeko.

All artists from and within Kwatsaduza are invited to come and participate in the event, entrance is free of charge.

The show will run until 4pm with different speakers from various stakeholders who will be imparting knowledge with local artists. There will be a platform for up-and-coming artists to showcase their talent and crafts as well.

Sibeko says the forum is registered under the arts and culture department and aims to address some of the challenges they face.

“Our major challenge at the moment is that we, as artists in KwaThema, do not have an arts centre, we are forced to use public schools for our art activities.

“And now, the schools do not want to work with us anymore.

“We are suffering because we do not have a place where we can work,” adds Sibeko.
