Lesufi opens new Primary School in Tsakane

The state of the art facility for 205 children from Grade One to Grade Six.

Tsakane – The community of Tsakane was abuzz with excitement on October 10 when Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi officially opened the Mega Primary School.

The building project started in January to serve the Extensions 22 community as well those of Extensions 8 and 13.

The school is expected to attract learners from different disadvantaged communities including Primrose, Reiger Park, Katlehong, Geluksdal, KwaThema, Eden Park, Tsakane and Duduza.

The state of the art facility will cater for 205 learners from Grade One to Grade Six.

It has 28 classrooms and a laboratory.

The MEC warned the community to refrain from vandalising educational facilities during service delivery protests, and from stealing from schools.

“I am leaving this school in your capable hands because the last time we opened a school in Tsakane, the following day it was broken into and the equipment meant for the learners was stolen.

“With that said, I was never discouraged to come back to fulfil my promises because we all understand the importance of education,” says Lesufi.

The school is a modern facility with a design based on a prototype that incorporates the Department of Education National Schools Infrastructure Norms and Standards.

The school fall within the mega school category, and due to its size responds to the demand trends encountered across the province.

The MEC said the school belongs to the community, and so the community members are welcomed to its facilities but have to do so with care and respect for the environment.

“If the community wants to hold public meetings or prayer sessions on weekends, it is of utmost importance to respect the facility

and the environment.”

 

Ward 112 Clr Nomalanga Annah Mnguni says they are grateful for the development in the ward in the midst of other pressing challenges.

The learners will benefit from the new feeding scheme introduced at the school.
