Police warn public against scammers in the CBD

This comes after several people were scammed of their belongings by women who claim they are able to get you massive discounts at retail stores in town.

The Springs police are urging the public to be vigilant when in the CBD.

“The suspects, which are women in their late 20s and early 30s, are targeting older women while working in groups of two or four.

“One suspect will approach a victim and say they work at a particular shop and can get them a 50 per cent discount as they either work there or know the manager and just need a few things from you.

“After the victims hand over their belongings, they are never seen again,” says Springs police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora.

Ramphora says they had four cases opened over the past two weeks regarding this scam.

Police went on to say the suspects are on their radar and will find them soon as what they are doing is a criminal offence.
