Sector One and SAPS celebrate Heritage Day through sports and art

Sector One public relations officer Sandile Nyauza says, “We wanted to emphasise the vital and crucial role of sports and art in fighting and avoiding crime.”

KwaThema –Sector One, with the South African Police Services (SAPS) in KwaThema, held a sports and cultural awareness fun day on September 24 at Phumulo soccer ground.

The aim of the event was to celebrate different cultures and diversity through arts and sport.

“These two things can build a healthy and friendly environment for our children and the community at large.”

The event started with a soccer game between the KwaThema SAPS and Sector One. The SAPS triumphed 2-1.

Supporters were entertained by performances from locals showcasing their heritage, culture and talent.

KwaThema SAPS Sgt Percy Mabanga says, “The community responded very positively to the event. We had different ethnic groups come to join us and many participated in the activities we had for the day.”

The event is set to become an annual event.
