Social club raises funds for the needy

The proceeds collected on the day will go towards the social club's social outreach programmes.

KwaThema – Hundreds of local health fanatics braved the chilly weather to participate in the second leg of the Kutlwano Social Organisation (Kuso) Heritage Wellness Day on Saturday.

The participants also had access to health screenings and health advice from medical experts at the venue.

This year’s Heritage Wellness Day, which included a 10km fun/walk and aerobic marathon, was themed Stop Women and Children Abuse.

Organiser Dumisani Mtshweni says they decided to speak out against the violence against women and children in the area.

“As men, we are saying enough is enough with the abuse and killing of our children and grandchildren.

“We are tired of reading about another woman who was killed or raped, it stops today.

“No one deserves their lives being cut short over a misunderstanding,” he explains.

KwaThema residents walked 10km against the abuse of women and children on Saturday.

The proceeds collected on the day will go towards the social club’s social outreach programmes.

“Through the years, we have been donating school shoes, uniforms, blankets, food and wheelchairs to those in need through the help of our members and local business people.

“We then decided to start this initiative as a fund-raising mechanism to be able to reach more beneficiaries.

“We are grateful that there were residents who donated funds towards the social outreach purse and the number of participants growing.

Residents in KwaThema spoke out against abuse during the annual wellness day event held by Kuso.

“We are inviting those interested in making the lives of the disadvantaged to come forward because we will not be able to succeed without the help of the community,” he adds.
