SASSA says there should always be one official available to help residents

Senior communications manager at SASSA Nandi Mosia has confirmed that applications for child grants are only done on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

In last week’s article “Residents frustrated by Sassa”, we detailed how resident Zakhele Dlangalala had been turned away three times by the agency while trying to apply for a child support grant.

Senior communications manager at SASSA Nandi Mosia has confirmed that applications for child grants are only done on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

“This is due to the high influx of applicants the office has made arrangements to stagger applicants for a better service provision.

“This category has a high number of applicants, and mostly young and agile, thus people with disabilities have been assigned different days to child support grant (CSG),” says Mosia.

Mosia added that even when there is a staff meeting, as was the case on August 21, one official must always be available to respond to general quick queries to avoid beneficiaries been sent from pillar to post.

When asked if security is allowed to speak on behalf of staff and turn people away, Mosia says, “no security guard must answer on SASSA business to the beneficiaries, their function is to provide security services.”
