Residents urged to join the local parkrun

“We have people of all ages participating in the weekly run at their own pace and they improve through the course of time without any pressure.”

KwaThema – Residents of Kwatsaduza are encouraged to participate in the Bulithando Parkrun every Saturday from 8am.

The 5km run is attended by people of all ages in a bid to maintain a healthy lifestyle and an active community.

The run is divided into two laps with volunteers at some of the points in case of an emergency.

Bulithando Parkrun director Victor Ngubeni says it is never too late to start running.

“You don’t have to wait until you are a certain age to start running.

“We have people of all ages participating in the weekly run at their own pace and they improve through the course of time without any pressure.

“We need everyone to participate because these sessions are held by the people for the people of this community,” he adds.

Ngubeni says without the participation of the community the local parkrun will go under.

“We need more people to join because if the number of participants keeps dropping every weekend, we will soon not have one.

“Residents must also remember that we brought the parkrun to the area after seeing many of the locals participating in parkruns in other areas.

Ngubeni says the runners must remember to register on the parkrun website and bring their barcodes to record their finishing time.
