Real Barcelona FC receives soccer kit donation

“The team was formed five years ago but because of the lack of funding through the years, we only had one soccer kit which the u-11, u-13 and u-17 teams had to share."

KwaThema – Real Barcelona FC received a soccer kit donation from Ace Auto Ayoba FC management on Wednesday.

This came after the team identified the need for an extra soccer kit.

President of KwaThema Sports Confederation innocent Mayoyo says as part of his responsibility to revive and support local teams, he realised that the team needed the donation.

“I identified that during soccer matches the players were forced to use the same soccer kit for all the matches.

“Sometimes two of their teams were supposed to play at the same time, but one would be forced to use the other’s training gear because of the shortage.

“Because we have a lot of soccer kits which we received through donations and winning tournaments, we decided to share one with them,” he says.

Mayoyo adds that this is part of encouraging and motivating the players to keep playing the sport.

“Soccer keeps these players off the streets and away from illegal activities which impact their future negatively.

“Even though we are from different teams, it doesn’t mean that we are rivals. We are working towards the same goal of empowering and grooming our boys,” he says.

Real Barcelona coach Phindi Lekubu says she is grateful for the donation.

“The team was formed five years ago but because of the lack of funding through the years, we only had one soccer kit which the u-11, u-13 and u-17 teams had to share.

“It was taking a toll on the team because we often had to borrow from the other teams to be able to play.

“This will motivate our players especially because it is Barcelona FC’s colours,” she says.
