Three arrested for hijacking in Duduza

“The arrested trio is expected to appear in the Nigel and Springs magistrates' courts soon to face charges of motor vehicle hijacking and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.”

KwaThema – A white VW Polo that was hijacked in Duduza on Friday night was found abandoned in KwaThema on Saturday morning after three suspects were arrested in Harrismith.

The suspects led the police to the firearm used, which was found in KwaThema.

EMPD spokesperson Supt Wilfred Kgasago says EMPD Equestrian Unit members found the abandoned vehicle.

“The recovered vehicle was taken to SAPS Van Ryn Deep Pound in Benoni for safekeeping and further investigations.

“Later in the afternoon, around 4pm, information was received by EMPD Equestrian Unit members that three suspects travelling in a vehicle believed to have been used in the Duduza hijacking on Friday night were arrested in Harrismith.

“SAPS members, together with tracker company officials, made the arrests.

“The trio volunteered to point out a house in KwaThema where the firearm used was hidden,” explains Kgasago.

In a joint effort between EMPD Equestrian Unit members and SAPS members, the firearm was recovered at an address in KwaThema.

“Although no one was home, the firearm was located and later booked in at KwaThema Police Station.

“The arrested trio is expected to appear in the Nigel and Springs magistrates’ courts soon to face charges of motor vehicle hijacking and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition,” says Kgasago.
