Annual Youth Career Day held in Tsakane

The educational event will cover the following career paths: law, humanities, social sciences, engineering, technical work, health, sport, aviation, graphic and interior design, information technology and coding, music, arts and fashion, finance and accounting, politics and economics, communications and marketing, as well as hospitality.

Tsakane – The third annual Youth Career Day in Tsakane will be taking place on June 22.

The event will be held at the AFM i-Hlumela Assembly 1341 Maduna Street and will start at 9am to 1pm.

The annual event was established by Tebogo Mokoena in 2017 after noticing learners don’t know how to use the freely available information they already have.

“The gap in knowledge of available careers cannot be ignored. We believe in empowering learners with knowledge and practical information,” says Tebogo.

The career day is for Kwatsaduza learners who are currently in Grade 10, 11 and 12.

The educational event will cover the following career paths: law, humanities, social sciences, engineering, technical work, health, sport, aviation, graphic and interior design, information technology and coding, music, arts and fashion, finance and accounting, politics and economics, communications and marketing, as well as hospitality.

The event organisers have partnered with the City of Ekurhuleni, Harambe, National Youth Development Agency, EK FM, CSIR, National Research Foundation, WeThinkCode and South African Agency for Science and Technology.

“We cover these fields with our dedicated volunteers who share knowledge on various career choices,” says Tebogo.

She explains that partnering learners with successful young black professionals is important as learners are able to get real-life examples and role models they can look up to.

Volunteers also benefit from giving back to the communities they grew up in, providing insight on challenges and past experiences.

Tebogo says: “It is important that our youth are informed on how to use this valuable information to ultimately benefit them and those around them.”
