Churches to pray for safety in KwaThema

“The crime in the area has gotten so out of hand that criminals are now vandalising churches."

KwaThema – The escalating crime rate in the area has led pastors and preachers in the area to organise a three-day prayer session from June 7 to 9.

The ceremony, which is aimed at praying for safety in the area, will be held at Masibuyele Ku Jehova Ministry at 17A Nyaweni Street.

Pastor Matshepo Mokoena says residents and churches are invited attend the session.

“We decided to hold this prayer for the residents of KwaThema after learning about the killings in schools and street kidnappings.

“We are also concerned about the recent allegations of the existence of a gang in the area that is terrorising the community and raping young women.

“We believe every member of society has to do something to help the police fight crime.

“We cannot allow criminals to take ownership of our community. We have to fight from all angles,” she says.

Ward 78 Clr Zanele Nyakale says her office fully supports this good initiative.

“The crime in the area has gotten so out of hand that criminals are now vandalising churches.

“On a daily basis, we receive crime-related complaints and we believe if all members of society come together, we will be able to force criminals out of the community,” she says.
