KwaThema Sports Confederation host fortnightly multi-code sports event

“The purpose of the games is to get everyone active, so anyone, young and old, can join us.”

KwaThema – The KwaThema Sports Confederation held its first multi-code sports event at the KwaThema Stadium this past Saturday.

The sporting codes involved this weekend were soccer, basketball, aerobics and bodybuilding.

The event will occur every second Saturday at the KwaThema Stadium until October 5.

KwaThema Sports Confederation executive committee member and KwaThema Bulls captain Thandokuhle Kunene says everyone is welcome to take part in the games.

“The purpose of the games is to get everyone active, so anyone, young and old, can join us,” he says.

Kunene adds that one need not be skilled to participate in the games.

“It is a personal advantage if you have played the sport before, but people who have never played the sport are more than welcome to come and learn something new,” he adds.

He also says that while the confederation will try its best to ensure there is enough equipment for the sports, if participants own any sporting equipment they are more than welcome to bring them along.

KwaThema Sports Confederation executive committee member and owner of Green Apple Gym in KwaThema Bafana Manake says the first event went well.

“The event went well, but we hope for more people at the next one, so we will be going around the community, letting people know about the event,” he says.

Manake also says it was important to include bodybuilding and aerobics because those sports are not popular in the township.

“These sports aren’t popular and this will give people an opportunity to learn it and open themselves up to not only learning something new, but a possible career as a personal trainer or even a gym owner,” he concludes.
