“The theft of this cable is a big problem because it has happened more than four times this year alone, and the thieves sell it in scrap yards,” he says.

The areas affected by the cable theft include Tornado, Phomolo, Riverside, KwaThema Hostel and Nyanyatho.

“I know that other areas of KwaThema were without electricity since the early hours of Friday morning, but that was caused by the transmitter tripping and power has been restored to the areas not affected by the cable theft,” he adds.

Simelane requested that the community not to tamper with cables as the loss of power inconveniences everyone greatly and damages appliances when it returns.
