Albinism is still extremely misunderstood with lots of myths surrounding people with the albinism condition.

KwaThema – The Kwatsaduza Albinism Society Initiative is inviting the public to join them at KwaThema Hall on June 13.

The organisation will be hosting an awareness day in commemoration of International Albinism Day.

Mandla Gininda, the chairperson of the Kwatsaduza Albinism Society Initiative, told African Reporter that people with albinism are still being discriminated against and there is a lack of education among the public when it comes to people living with albinism.

“We want to create awareness of albinism by extending an invitation to the community and different stakeholders,” he said.

Albinism is still misunderstood, with lots of myths surrounding people with albinism.

“We decided on June 13 as it is the date on which the entire world will be celebrating individuals who are living with albinism. It is important for us as an organisation to celebrate our people as well,” says Gininda.

The non-profit organisation is inviting the community, human rights activists, gender-based organisations and the South African Police Service to attend the event.
