Golfers pay it forward for university students

“The feedback I received was very positive and the energy on the golf day was fantastic.”

KwaThema – The KwaThema Socio-Economic Organisation (KTSEO), in partnership with the Department of Basic Education (Gauteng and East District), hosted a successful charity golf day on April 26 at State Mines Country Club in Brakpan.

There were 10 happy sponsors in total.

Event organiser Katlego Mogafe says: “The feedback I received was very positive and the energy on the golf day was fantastic.

“Players seem to be very eager and excited about this organisation and look forward to supporting the KTSEO golf day every year.”

KTSEO is a non-profit organisation (NPO) which was established by the business community of KwaThema to help students afford their university registration fees.

Thandi Mabele (46), a golf player from Tsakane, explains that golf is no longer a male-dominated sport.

“It’s a male and female sport and I am hoping to have a good time as a person who loves golf.

“After all, this is for the good of the students,” says Mabele.

The winners of the golf tournament were Demist Mogafe and Mfana Mavuso.

Both players won a trip to Phuket in Thailand.

In addition to the R87 000 that was previously raised, another R50 000 was made from the auction that took place on the same evening.
