EMPD operations pounce on drunken drivers, crime suspects

KwaThema – 34 drunk drivers were arrested in Tsakane, Daveyton and KwaThema during the Easter weekend.

This was during the high density special operations targeting drinking-and-driving in Kwatsaduza.

EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago says these were the drivers who were found drunk behind the wheel on public roads in the area, putting other road users’ lives in danger.

“Eleven drivers who were found to be over the limit were nabbed in Tsakane on Thursday and Friday, 20 in Daveyton on Saturday and three in KwaThema on Sunday morning.

“Additionally, two suspects found with counterfeit banknotes were arrested at Putfontein in Benoni, one with an unlicensed firearm in Daveyton.

“Another suspect was apprehended for armed robbery in Daveyton as well,” says Kgasago.
