Skill centre students graduate in KwaThema

The first group of 2019 Arise and Shine seamstresses have graduated.

KwaThema – The first group of 2019 Arise and Shine seamstresses have graduated.

Mapule Mashifane founder says: “We feeling very proud because irrespective of the challenges everyone has been hands-on and very productive.”

The skills centre has partnered with the Siyabonga Africa, a non-profit organisation (NPO) and a public beneficiary organisation (PBO), for the upcoming KwaThema Fashion Week which is set to take place on March 30 at KwaThema Hall, where graduates will have the opportunity to showcase some of their original work.

Mathabo Zondo, one of the graduates, said: “When I started I didn’t know how to use the machines, but today I am proud to say that I am able to sew and create my own creations. It is now up to me to ensure that I advance the basic skills which have been instilled in me.”

Elizabeth Mnguni, another graduate, says: “I am proud to be part of the first batch to graduate this year. I have acquired skills in threading which at first proved to be a challenge and I now know how to operate both domestic and industrial machines.”

The next group will start on March 25.
